A little bit of history...

In 1895 in the city of Birmingham (UK), Alfred M. Reynolds solved a problem that had frustrated bicycle frame builders for years. Alfred developed a way to join thin, lightweight steel tubes without weakening the connected joints. This gave bicycle builders (and cyclists) the best of both worlds - a lightweight but high-tensile frame.

This wasn’t just any old breakthrough...

Alfred had discovered a technique that would revolutionise bicycle frame building to the present day. This revolution helped produce no fewer than 27 Tour de France winners, including the likes of Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault, and Greg LeMond. And then there was speed-demon Guy Martin, who smashed the bicycle land speed record using a Reynolds frame in 2013.

Today, Reynolds butted steel tubing remains a product of choice for high-performance cycle manufacturers across the world, including De Rosa, Genesis, Mercian and LeMond to name but a few.
